that sounds unbearably painfulSometimes, the Yahoo Box Of Headlines gives you the hanging curveball. Other times, the slow-pitch softball.
And now, T-ball, against an infield of blind ten year olds with their shoelaces tied together:

Fill the screen with punchlines!

dr thompsonI just got back from a meeting, here at my dayjob. I used the phrase "hittin' and hopin'" in a sentence and was disappointed in the lack of response. It seems that the shocking is now the SOP, and there are a few cultural icons we should thank for that. And, yes, I did use the phrase out of its vulgar context.
I always wanted to be "gonzo", ever since I knew what "gonzo" was, but I never have been. This is perhaps something that all of the amatuer writey types of the Internets have in common. I have tried, but there is a certain shrewd recklessness I could never pull off. Now I will try harder to be "gonzo".

so shut up and get dressed for work"It's not fair" -- I'm still hearing that said by friends and family. From personal tragedies to furniture dance parties at the upstairs neighbor to that girl making eyes at you and then sitting with that guy with the weird hair. Common philosophical complaint in a world of random consequences and rewards.
Last night I watched the dunk competition on the television -- the NBA No-Star portion of the All-Star weekend. A special musical guest was the Goo Goo Dolls. I'm no critic of the Goo Goo Dolls (though they do look funny ten years later), but in watching I realized:
The Goo Goo Dolls have made much, much more money than the Replacements. Like, by an order of magnitude.
Is fair? Is not fair.
So, you see.
